I loved this story! A must read for anyone of Irish descent, I learned a lot about my ancestor's struggles and it gave me some clues as to why they left their homeland to conquer the great unknown.

This book is one of my favorites of all times, it makes you laugh, cry, get angry, be sad and touches all of the rest of your emotions. Being of Irish decent and hearing the stories of my aunts and uncle when I was growing up I really enjoyed this book.
Uris is the first person to tell the story of Ireland in a way that makes me understand some of the issues that caused the troubles in its violent past. You might come away hating the English, but you will also have some strong feelings about the Catholic Church.
This is a big book and it tells a big story, basically it deals with one family and cover 2 generations during the late 1800s and early 1900s. I have read this 3 times and will probably pick it up again somewhere down the line. Once I start it I can't put it down even though it can make me very angry at the way the Irish were treated.
I think this is a must read for anyone who wants to understand "the troubles" of Ireland.
This book was the property of a library. Any value as a “limited first edition” is erased with the labels. It is not the book in the image either. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS BUYER if you’re interested in collectibles.
Trinity is an accurate and realistic portrayal of what it is to be a subjugated, oppressed Irish Catholic in the late 1800s and early 1900s. It also lays out quite a bit of Irish history. More importantly this book truly speaks to the soul. I have never read anything before or since Trinity that touches our inner humanity so deeply. The book addresses issues such as love and love lost, beauty, happiness, masculinity and femininity. This book changed my life significantly for the better. I hope you will allow it to do the same for you.
Best book ever if you want to understand why the Irish think the way they do! Anyone of Irish ancestry owes it to themselves to read this book because you will then understand your DNA and where you come from.
Leon Uris is a masterful writer. He writes with a passion and allows the story to flow through his characters with seeming ease,while engaging the reader to join their passion for faith, Ireland, history -past and future. The story is evolves through the eyes of the Irish and British people, government and churches, logic and magic mist of the past . Freedom of religion , love of the land and it's people are the core and you feel the absolute strength of both. The characters are strong and principled leaving the reader to feel the pain of decisions they must make giving up family, future and and even their life for the belief of an Ireland free from British control. Uris sheds light on their decision making through conversations and pulls the reader right along with the pain of giving up personal life for the cause- a Free Ireland.
As Colin Larkin says,"I'm an Irishman and I've had enough!" The period of time is 1885-1914 and the struggle continued. There is real joy in finding a book so well written and powerful and leaves you wanting more but also needing to delve farther into the subject and learning about history, perhaps understanding what is happening in our present time.
You know right away that Uris is a skilled storyteller (and realize why his imitators fail). This novel is thickly written, as it must be to present the historical facts and the amount of sociological background that Uris does. I know from reading his other works that his research is painstaking and that he is able to get into the minds of various factions, to tell why they behave as they do. At times the historical/political complexities are hard to follow, but every account of Ireland's history has been that way for me. It is, after all, a long and complicated saga.

Uris is a master of dialogue, among other things, so reading the lilting, musical Donegal speech is a pleasure. And of course the upper crust Brits are true to form as well. Uris clearly writes from the point of view of the Republicans, which is to say, the Irish who want their nation free of British rule. But he manages to populate his novel with quite a variety of points of view and does so without being impossibly biased. One must keep in mind that until the latter half of the twentieth century, most accounts of the struggle between the Irish and the English were written by the English... and there you WILL find bias.

Trinity is a satisfyingly long read that kept me happy for a whole week of bedtime and escape-from-work reading. Be prepared that like Exodus, this is a heavy-weight. And so worth it! It was first published in the mid-seventies and surely passes the test of time. It is historical fiction dealing primarily with the situation in Northern Ireland - Ulster - which is the most complicated of the island's problems, and ends just prior to the Rising of 1916. Read and weep and learn.
I first read this book about thirty-five years ago and I truly enjoyed doing so. I loved the Irish characters who were so rebellious, strong willed, loyal, firey and all who had deep routed feelings about the Prods and the Catholics. It is a sad but true story told in novel form. To me it represents all of the tales my Dad used to tell me about the "troubles." I plan on re-reading this book shortly and I just know I will enjoy it as much as I did when I read it for the first time...
